Day 2: Vila do Conde to Esposende

Breakfast buffet style was include with accommodation and as the hostel was full we wanted to be there first so 7.30 start. After breakfast we departed at 8.00, it was chilly at first but we soon warmed up after the sun came up. 

We walked at least 7km along the cost before we left the urban area as Vila do Conde merged seamlessly with P贸voa de Varzim. 

The weather was much better than yesterday with a gentle see breeze and no rain. However the sea was still angry with huge waves. 

At about 5km I realised I had not fully vaselined up so we had a very quick Pitt Stop. 

The scenery was very similar with beach waves and seaside houses and apartments, in some spots there was evidence sea weed harvesting with large plastics covers stacks that smelt pretty bad. We were eventually pushed off the coasts and gently pushed in land on a suspended boardwalk . Passed lots of small holdings or allotments,  and one had a huge pumpkin in it, ( Took this photo for you Jim!)


We also stopped at a small shack for coffee. Also they offered a stamp for our Camino Passport and this was Bobs first stamp as the hostel last nights stamp was broken. 

Then passed a lovely golf course, and again throw small holdings and small villages. We stopped at the  Church of the Imaculada Concei莽茫ox. Before entering a small  Eucalyptus forest.

Then we crossed the Rio Casado with only 1.5km to Esposende. We stoped at the first bar for burgers and a beer finishing at 1.30

We checked in to our accommodation at 15.00 the InnEsposende Sports Hostel, which is very comfortable.

Tomorrow we head for Viana do Castelo approx 25.3km.

    Glad to see the weather improved and you had an early finish. Good luck for tomorrow you have a longer day ahead remember to Vaseline up 馃槀

 We planned to get up earlier than usual but slept in. We still left the accommodation at 7.30.  It was chucking it down and it was dark, sunrise was not till 8.55.  So walking with head torches we headed through the suburbs avoiding the large puddles. It was easy enough going as it did not start climbing to 7km. The route was mostly along narrow alley ways, busy roads  and dirt tracks. There were street lights for about 3km.  Soaked through we stopped for breakfast at 8km. Unfortunately a large tour group that we had nicknamed the yellow jackets had got there before us so there was a very long queue 馃槩.   Back on the road and the rain had eased , then we started to climb to 260m. Some of it was steep and at at one point we had to negotiate a fallen tree.  Less than 10km to go to Santago. Met Sissy 72, had hip replacements and waiting on two knee replacements! Day 5: Guarda to Baiona

By moving from Portugal to Spain we changed from Western European to Central European Timezone. As a result we departed later this morning at 8.39. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel as we were going to struggle to find a cafe open early on a Sunday morning.   Also we definitely felt the effect of the 30km march the day before as we had not quite fully recovered.  Leaving Guarda we had a major climb up steep steps and navigated narrow streets before quickly dropping out onto the coast leaving Guarda behind.  Reflection of the sunrise as we left Guarda. Our  pace was slow but the coastline was beautiful. It was different in that it was much more rugged with rocky outcrops into the sea and very few beaches. Any beaches we did sea were nearly almost covered in sea weed.  Less than 150km to Santiago. These markers appeared when we entered Galicia,Spain pointing the way.
