Day 13:Vilaserio to Olvieroa

We reluctantly departed at 9.08 and to say it was chucking it down was an understatement. 


 Forecast for today was 13mm of rain at 9.00


Within 20 minutes we were fully soaked on the outside.


However we plodded on for the next 5km. The good news is we didn’t get any wetter, we couldn’t 馃挦 馃ぃ 馃挦

Then the rain stopped and we even got blue sky. We thought it might start again as there appeared to be dark clouds on the horizon but thankfully it didn’t. We dried out pretty quickly. 

The route was mostly road walking but there was some gravel path but no forest to give any cover.  It was also described as flat but that wasn’t true, we climbed nearly 380m.

We stopped for some much needed coffee at 8km

It was an Alberge as well as a cafe

It’s not a smoking field it is a flooded field reflecting the clouds (Not intentional)

Just over half way we peaked on this  Camino to these spectacular views.  Lucky with the weather had broken so we could see them. 馃榾












A graveyard, pretty amazing. 

We arrived at our Alberge a little sooner than expected. We were aiming for Olveira but the Alberge was 1.75 km before it, so tomorrow will be a little longer. 

And as always a beer馃嵑

Day 11: Padr贸n to Santiago de Compestela

 We planned to get up earlier than usual but slept in. We still left the accommodation at 7.30.  It was chucking it down and it was dark, sunrise was not till 8.55.  So walking with head torches we headed through the suburbs avoiding the large puddles. It was easy enough going as it did not start climbing to 7km. The route was mostly along narrow alley ways, busy roads  and dirt tracks. There were street lights for about 3km.  Soaked through we stopped for breakfast at 8km. Unfortunately a large tour group that we had nicknamed the yellow jackets had got there before us so there was a very long queue 馃槩.   Back on the road and the rain had eased , then we started to climb to 260m. Some of it was steep and at at one point we had to negotiate a fallen tree.  Less than 10km to go to Santago. Met Sissy 72, had hip replacements and waiting on two knee replacements! Day 5: Guarda to Baiona

By moving from Portugal to Spain we changed from Western European to Central European Timezone. As a result we departed later this morning at 8.39. We decided to have breakfast at the hotel as we were going to struggle to find a cafe open early on a Sunday morning.   Also we definitely felt the effect of the 30km march the day before as we had not quite fully recovered.  Leaving Guarda we had a major climb up steep steps and navigated narrow streets before quickly dropping out onto the coast leaving Guarda behind.  Reflection of the sunrise as we left Guarda. Our  pace was slow but the coastline was beautiful. It was different in that it was much more rugged with rocky outcrops into the sea and very few beaches. Any beaches we did sea were nearly almost covered in sea weed.  Less than 150km to Santiago. These markers appeared when we entered Galicia,Spain pointing the way.
